Promoting gender equality and empowering women

Promoting gender equality and empowering women is the third of eight UN Millennium Development Goals that form a blueprint for the world's countries and leading development institutions to meet the needs of the world's poorest.

MDG # 3 aims to eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education preferably by 2005, and at all levels by 2015.

An innovative new effort by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark focuses on reaching MDG#3 through a global Torch Campaign.
