Forum member publishes book on leadership

Marilyn Carlson Nelson, a member of our Forum as the Chair of Carlson Companies, has published a new book, "How We Lead Matters." This thoughtful book is a collection of personal anecdotes from Marilyn's past and includes some of her favorite quotes and poetry. In it, she channels her experiences as one of the most successful female CEOs in the world into lessons on leadership, being a woman in business, and building a family legacy.

Marilyn assumed the CEO role at Carlson from the company founder (and her father) Curt Carlson in 1998. From the beginning, her goal was to try to “lead with love,” and build an enterprise known as much for its caring heart as for its business success. In ten years as CEO (1998-2008), Marilyn nearly doubled systemwide sales of Carlson to almost $40 billion, expanded Carlson’s brands into 151 countries, saw the company achieve several “best workplace” lists, and significantly strengthened the reputation of the Carlson brand.
