Bring your kids to work instead of taking maternity leave?

A new article by the New York Times examines a growing trend in the workforce- more companies allowing women to bring their babies to the office. The Family Medical and Leave Act requires companies to give new mothers three (unpaid) months off after the birth of a child in the United States. The time off can be hard on both the business that loses an employee and the mother who may need the income or does not want to disrupt her career.

Women in the boardroom - the impact on company performance

A new research paper "Women in the Boardroom and Their Impact on Governance and Performance" looks at how gender diversity in the boardroom affects governance. Using the sample of 86,714 directorships for the period 1996-2003, the resarchers find that there is a significant effect of gender diversity on board inputs.

Vital Voices and Standard Chartered Bank to support women's empowerment in Asia

One of our Forum members, Standard Chartered Bank, has partnered with Vital Voices on an initiative to support women's economic empowerment in Asia. The partnership was announced this December by former U.S. President Bill Clinton at the Hong Kong Asia Summit of the Clinton Global Initiative.

New employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate that the current American recession is hitting male workers harder than their female counterparts.

A recent study analyzing the personality differences between women and men in 56 countries found that personalities of men and women seemed to differ more in places like Europe and the United States than in poorer countries that often have more traditional cultures.
