Company Information
The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is a bank holding company and a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm. Goldman Sachs provides a wide range of services worldwide to a substantial and diversified client base that includes corporations, financial institutions, governments and high net worth individuals. Founded in 1869, the firm is headquartered in New York and maintains offices in London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Hong Kong and other major financial centers around the world.
Focus on Women's Empowerment
Launched in March 2008, 10,000 Women* is a global philanthropic initiative to provide 10,000 underserved women, predominantly in developing and emerging markets, with a business and management education. The initiative will invest $100 million over five years in the exponential power of women as entrepreneurs and managers, guided by the knowledge that extending more opportunity to women is one of the most powerful means to greater economic growth.
Through partnerships between a network of over 30 leading academic institutions and non-profit organizations, the initiative is funding business and management education programs throughout the world, and supporting robust capacity building efforts to ensure a lasting, broader impact on the quality of business education in developing regions. As a result, thousands of high potential women will have access to entrepreneurial and management training. In addition, the underlying quality of that education will be enhanced for future generations of entrepreneurs and managers by faculty training, and the development of locally-relevant case studies, innovative curricula, and interactive knowledge sharing platforms.
To further leverage this investment, Goldman Sachs is committing its most valuable asset – the time and talent of its people – to the success of 10,000 Women through mentoring, guest lecturing and other engagement opportunities, and is partnering with leading global NGOs to support the critical post-graduate mentoring, networking and professional development activities that extend the benefits and impact of the program well beyond the classroom.
