Member Background

Wendy Luhabe, founding member, is a social entrepreneur. She chairs the Industrial Development Corporation and the International Marketing Council in a non-executive capacity and is a director of the JSE Securities Exchange. In 1997 Wendy was recognized by the World Economic Forum as a Global Leader for Tomorrow. She was named by the Sunday Times as one of the 20 most powerful women in South Africa and in 1999 honored as one of the Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World. Wendy is a jury member for the Cartier Women's Initiative Awards.

 

Company Information

Women Private Equity Fund for women was founded in 2003 as a sequel to WIPHOLD to provide development capital to women owned / managed enterprises.  The fund is fully invested and is currently raising €100m for the next fund.

 

Focus on Women's Empowerment

Wendy is a founder member of WIPHOLD, an initiative which revolutionized the participation of women in South Africa's economy. It empowered a broad base of women and women's organisations who continue to have access to dividends that have enabled them to have financial independence. It remains the only initiative of its kind in the world. Wendy is a recipient of two Honorary Doctorates in Commerce for her contribution to the Economic Empowerment of Women.
